The Dormancy

Michael Wow, this was pretty heartbreaking. A recapitulation of the affect of the first three, except the last shred of hope is almost gone. Listening was like ascending a mountain in the Hindu Kush, not knowing whether there will be a descent, or if all that awaits is a sky burial at the summit. This is a neural pathway to the acceptance of the grief of the living. Favorite track: Masks Between Mirrors.

jedenvlk GBD has a knack for creating a continuos story from album to album and this one is no exception. Much of this album digs deep into one's internal dialogue which many us of tend to silence, but to no avail. In the end it is no surprise that this a perfect soundtrack to dealing with such toils. The album is an important mark not only on the provoking art that is GBD but also on the listener's rarely tranquil internal psyche. We are ensnared in the chaos no more if only for a temporary moment. Favorite track: Masks Between Mirrors.

Ed Conrad The Dormancy pays homage to the original birth of GBD and what got us all hooked in the first place...the painful voice narrating what we all sometimes feel. The album is as if we've reached full circle, yet I feel the story is not complete. You will be clinging to each sound, natural and unnatural, living and perhaps unliving. The artistry captured spares no technique unused, no feeling left unexpressed. The voice hasn't won, but it hasn't lost either. However, we are aware and we just cope. Favorite track: To Touch the Distant Flame.

about

The Dormancy is the sixth album by God Body Disconnect. A borderland where all mirrors tell the same thing; you are not yourself. The voice of the body is not your own and there is no way to wake up from the dreadful haze.

Bruce Moallem continues his unique combination of nightmarish field recordings and dosed soundscapes, mixed with confessions recorded on an old tape machine.
Bruce yet again shows us why he is considered a master of sonic storytelling.

Recommended for fans of walls of sound, isolation and tape machines.
