darkcasey Back to Beyond was, for me, the soundtrack to being on a long space journey. Many of the tracks feature metallic vibrations, muted clicks and beeps, and the hisses of atmosphere escaping from pressurised containment. For the most part, it seemed an album of smooth tones, small sounds and mechanical objects buzzing into the void. The darkness it displays is tempered by the warmth it also contains. Favorite track: Quantum Zero.

"Floating nutrition for your feline stowaway hits you amidst a sullen slumber. You jolt awake in the pilot seat and you hear the unearthly droning of your vessel. You look back and see the curious cat, leaping from wall to wall in zero-G snatching food pellets mid-air. The damn cat must have malfunctioned the kitty feeder again. This is why you normally leave her aboard the mothership, but no one knows how long this recon will take. Just a particle drifting in a never-ending expanse beyond reason. Golden dust shouldn’t be able to spread this far out from the wormhole. You realize the cat is safer with you and your sanity is safe with her. Those tincan AIs on the mothership know nothing of caring for a feline. In the cold heart of space, biologicals stick together, don’t they?"

What Eusebes throws into the mix however, is the kind of sound that you might hear when one spaceship docks with another, a kind of vigorous thump that goes way beyond straining superstructure. I felt that this was an introspective track, but one that creates the feeling of something coming. A bit like being alone in your house and thinking you hear a door opening downstairs, but on a space-station, with ships and time-warps. darkcasey
